Summerfest Thrilled Fans From All Over the Map in its 49th Year
Milwaukee locals and festival-goers from literally all over the map turned up to celebrate the 49th edition of Summerfest down by the water.
The 11 day event spanned from June 29th until July 10th with a day off for Independence Day celebration.
The festival is gearing up for its 50th year and biggest party ever in 2017.
Summerfest definitely lived up to its name as the world’s largest music festival.
With giveaways and affordable entry, the gates were seemingly off limits to no one. Promotions included the likes of free admission with a $10+ Goodwill shopping receipt, military appreciation, Go Red Day (wear a red shirt, get in free between noon and 3PM), can drives, and more.
Festivities, music, and help for the homeless!
Tickets were also discounted for children and seniors.
The grounds housed a dozen stages spread out comfortably, as well as an activity area for kids, comedy tent, and a skyglider to transport folks above the main walkway with a scenic view. Ice cream, BBQ, a myriad of beverage stands, pizza, pretzels, subs, and many other options gave fans a good number of choices for quelling their hunger. One of the scheduled extra events were fireworks down by the waterfront at 9:30 on various nights.
With music spanning start times from noon until 10:15 PM daily, there was a genre for everyone to enjoy. Some of the big name headliners included Selena Gomez, blink-182, the legendary Paul McCartney, Def Leppard, Willie Nelson, Rise Against, and many many more. Local favorites like GGOOLLDD were celebrated as hometown heroes, with Milwaukee friends and fans showing support in numbers.
Not even torrential downpours could keep the excited festival goers away!
Night two of the festival found June 30th attendees battling the rain, starting around 9 PM, but that certainly didn’t keep music listeners down.
With another successful and fun-filled year in the books, there’s no telling what excitement lies in wait for Summerfest’s next big party in 2017.
